I just found out that people in other departments are being told that "There have been complaints" about their conversations. That's funny, we've been told the same thing.

Damn. That is just messed up, childish and a bunch of crap. Why are they trying to cause trouble between departments? What possible advantage could there be?

See, I never understood this either. The "turn employees against each other on purpose" thing? NO understanding. the assholes at Sento started pulling that before all hell broke loose and they "laid off" half of us. Doug the Fuckhead would actually go to person A and say, "Person B said this bad thing about you," not realizing that the rest of us had been friends for the last two years or so and didn't believe it. So person A would talk to person B and compare notes and guess what? Doug was a lying fuckhead.

(sorry, this kind of behaviour still sets of resentment about how that whole situation turned out.)

You'd better lean over the side of that ship and make sure it doesn't say "Titanic" on the bow.

So, corporate = Jr. High? Oh! It all seems to make sense now, in a doesn't-make-sense-at-all way...

This isn't how it runs in all corporations. Just the ones that used to keep my Dad in business. (For the last decade of his life, Dad specialized in turning failing businesses around. The common element in all the businesses he saved was firing the incompetent managers, who were personal friends of the owner/Chairman of the Board/President/equivalent.)

You want to hear the REALLY sad part? This is a small company with under 200 employees. Someone, someplace in upper management decided to hire people for middle management who had corporate experience to make this company run more like a corporation.

So, instead of the mom and pop place it used to be where everyone knew everyone else (and *GASP!* talked to them) we are now a secretive, blame passing, cluster fu*k. Just like the Big Boys! Yeah!!!

Ah. They got the middle managers tossed out of the corporate world due to excessive incompetence.

In contrast, the Borg cube corporation that bought my employer, a year and a half ago, is trying to undo the corporate homogenization, and make the work place "feel like a startup." (Which is probably what they think a mom-and-pop place is!)

Mind, they seem clueless about how to do it, but they're trying! And every baby step in that general direction they take, makes it easier for us to work like we used to, before we were bought out.

I'd toss you a link to where jobs are posted, except that our nearest office to you is in Tulsa, which I presume is an unreasonably long commute.

OK is close to MO...but not that close. But if you know a bank that's cool for small business loans, I'll take something like that. :D

Divide & conquer.

If we're busy enough fighting each other, we can't use our energy to bring them down. Or so the reasoning goes.

Yep. Same thing they use to keep racism going strong. If we are fighting each other over the color of our skin, we can't overthrow the Rich White Guys.

Um...

I know that this isn't the reason you post these things, but MAN...you make me appreciate my job so much more!
